What are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments that modern dentistry has yet devised. Consisting of tooth-colored porcelain that reflects light in much the same way as natural tooth enamel, dental veneers are custom-made shells that are designed to cover the fronts of your teeth. This can hide a multitude of flaws. Dr. W. Eric Martin, DDS, PC, and Dr. Nick Sabbia are proud to offer patients at our practice high quality dental veneers in Champaign, IL.
When Should I Consider Dental Veneers ?
As versatile as they are natural-looking, dental veneers can hide many problems. This is why they are one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures available. Some patients even opt for what is called a “smile makeover” with veneers, covering most, if not all, of the visible fronts of their teeth for a whole new smile. Many patients, however, use dental veneers a bit more conservatively. Problems such as discolorations or stains that cannot be removed by teeth whitening, chips, cracks, gaps, misaligned teeth or teeth that you want to be reshaped can all be addressed with dental veneers. Sometimes called dental laminates, veneers are a popular dental procedure because of this versatility.
What Can I Expect?
If Dr. W. Eric Martin or Dr. Nick Sabbia examines you and determines that you are a good candidate for dental veneers, you will be scheduled for an appointment during which you will be prepared for your veneers. You will consult with your dentist regarding your new smile, choosing shapes and colors for your new look. Then your teeth will have a slight amount of enamel removed in order to make room for your veneers. After your teeth have been prepared, an impression mold will be made, which will be used to create custom veneers that fit onto your teeth perfectly. You will be fitted with temporary veneers to wear until your permanent set is ready to be bonded to your teeth. You will then be scheduled for another appointment a week or two later to have the permanent veneers bonded.
When you come back in, your veneers will be ready to bond to your teeth. Dr. Martin or Dr. Sabbia will temporarily place your veneers to check for fit and make any adjustments that are required for a perfect bite. Only then will your veneers be permanently bonded to your natural teeth. You will be thrilled with your new smile!
